Advocacy Forum-Nepal (AF) is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation focused on promoting human rights, justice, and the rule of law in Nepal. AF is looking for dynamic and result-oriented Nepali citizens for the following positions:

1. Project Coordinator: Transitional Justice and Accountability Department

Contract Duration: 1 year (Annual renewal based on performance).

Worktime: Full-time

Location: Kathmandu (AF Head Office)

Deadline: September 18 2026

Joining Date: October 1 2026

Role Summary

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the effective coordination, planning, development, and implementation of AF’s mission in upholding human rights and the rule of law in the field of transitional justice and accountability.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or Bachelor's degree) in law, human rights, political science, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree with work experience in the relevant field for at least 3 years or Bachelor’s Degree with work experience in the relevant field for at least 5 years (in a senior position working on issues of human rights and rule of law, transitional justice, accountability, and impunity, access to justice, or other relevant areas,
  • An excellent understanding of national and international law related to human rights and rule of law, transitional justice, the current human rights and political context at the federal and provincial levels,
  • Experience with outreach and coordination with donors, government, partners, civil society, the victims’ community, media, international organisations, UN mechanisms and other relevant stakeholders,
  • Experience with designing and executing project proposals, policy briefs, research papers and other advocacy documents.

Technical Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, both in English and Nepali, with translation capabilities to and from both languages,
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), particularly an ability to prepare project-related databases, utilise monitoring tools, store and analyse project-related data in Excel or other software.
  • Ability to work under pressure, in diverse teams, and with flexible schedules.
  • A driver's license. 

Major Responsibilities

(1)Project Planning and Implementation: 

  • Lead, design, and implement project activities within the Transitional Justice and Accountability department,
  • Provide support to the department in managing all aspects of the programme design and related activities at targeted federal, provincial, and local levels to ensure compliance and accountability in programme monitoring, reporting, and evaluation,

(2)Stakeholder Engagement and Representation:

  • Establish and maintain relations with donors, government, partners, civil society, the victims’ community, media, international organisations, UN mechanisms and other relevant stakeholders to achieve active collaboration, cooperation and alliances on programme development and implementation and resource mobilization,
  • Represent AF at provincial and national forums and coordination meetings,

(3)Research, Monitoring, and Reporting:

  • Develop policy documents, briefs, and other strategic papers/materials related to human rights and the rule of law,
  • Assist the AF team in designing and writing project proposals to donors,
  • Assist in the documentation and evidence collection on past and present human rights violations cases in Nepal,
  • Finalize quarterly reports, annual reports, and donor reports, focusing on results, output, and outcomes.

2. Legal Officer-Part Time

Contract Duration: 1 year (Annual renewal based on performance).

Work time: Part-time

Location: Janakpur

Deadline: September 18 2026

Joining Date: October 1 2026

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Legal Officer will be responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of AF’s project activities in upholding human rights and the rule of law in the province.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Educational background in law and human rights; Bachelor’s Degree with 3 years’ experience in the relevant field or Master’s Degree with at least 1 year’s work experience in the relevant field
  • Experience or interest in prevention of torture, transitional justice, juvenile justice, gender-related issues, protection of human rights defenders, national and international human rights, and the rule of law issues,
  • Good knowledge of the current human rights and political context, emerging human rights and rule of law, gender-based violence, the protection of human rights defenders, and access to justice issues at the local and provincial levels,
  • Experience writing advocacy letters, event reports, project reports, case stories, etc., in English and Nepali.

Technical Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, both in English and Nepali, with translation capabilities to and from both languages,
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), particularly an ability to prepare project-related databases, utilise monitoring tools, store and analyse project-related data in Excel or other software
  • Ability to work under pressure, in diverse teams, and with flexible schedules
  • Lawyer's license.
  • A driver's license. 

Major Responsibilities

  • Visits to government detention facilities, including Child Reform Homes and jails; providing legal counseling to the detainees and providing legal assistance to needy people,
  • Interviewing and attending to victims and their family members, ensuring systematic documentation and archiving of cases of human rights violations and conducting necessary intervention,
  • Updating and managing the information on detainees and the cases of human rights violations,
  • Drafting court cases and writ petitions and providing legal assistance to indigent victims,
  • Planning and implementation of the project activities,
  • Assisting the AF team in project-related publication and research work,
  • Identifying and liaising with concerned stakeholders and other human rights organizations,
  • Providing logistical support during training, stakeholder meetings, and meetings of office programs,
  • Developing the content and modality of consultation/meetings with stakeholders and hosting meetings and programs under AF’s theme,
  • Representing AF in the Province, 
  • Other tasks assigned by AF. 

Note: Remuneration and benefits will be commensurate with the rules of AF.
