Why Cover Block are used -Nepal

​Cover Block are used for following purposes 

1- To maintain distance between Rebar & shuttering.

2- To protect steel bar from environmental effect 

3- To prevent from corrosion.

4- To give sufficient embedding to enable them to be stressed without slipping.

​Cover Block used in Column 

In order to used in the column normally nominal size of cover block is 40 mm but it depends upon size of the structure.

The cover blocks lifts the rebar up by about 20 mm to 75 mm and becomes a permanent and integral part of the poured concrete.

It ensure that no part of the rebar sags and minimizes that required concrete cover age during pouring of concrete.

Normally cover block should be used the following concrete stages in the Building 

1. footing Area 

2. Column 

3. Beam

4. Stair 

5. Slab

Shear Wall and Column connections

​Shear wall is the Reinforced concrete section which having cement sand aggregate and steel as per the design by the designer. Normally i have found 16 mm dai bar used in the residential building but commercial building have different designs.

Specially Lift portion of building have needed because of heavyweights of lift or as per design load minimum thickness of shear wall is 250mm and steel as per designer but minimum thickness of share wall steel diameter should not more than 16mm.
