This position focuses on improving community health systems across the Khotang and Solukhumbu districts through the RMNCAH Improvement Project and the ASRH and Telehealth Project, supported by the Australian Himalayan Foundation (AHF) and DFAT.

• Field Travel: High (At least 50% field travel to remote project locations)
• Reports To: District Project Manager / MEAL Manager

Project & Position Summary

The MEAL Associate will oversee monitoring frameworks, data collection, indicator tracking, accountability mechanisms, and learning documentation for health initiatives covering:

• Khotang District: Kepilashgadi RM & Aaiselukharka RM
• Solukhumbu District: Soludhudhkunda Municipality, Thulung Dudhkoshi RM, Sotang RM, Mapya Dudhkoshi RM, and Mahakulung RM

The primary goal of this role is to ensure high-quality, disaggregated project data, align operations with HMIS/LMIS frameworks, maintain community feedback channels, and support Gender, Equity, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Monitoring & System Implementation

• Implement the project’s MEAL plan in line with donor requirements and the logical framework.
• Maintain updated Indicator Tracking Sheets (ITS) and project databases.
• Coordinate with rural municipalities, health facilities, FCHVs, and local schools to gather timely health data.
• Participate in Joint Supervision Visits and Minimum Service Standards (MSS) assessments for local health facilities.

2. Data Management & Quality Assurance

• Verify health facility and field-level data for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
• Collect disability-disaggregated and GEDSI-focused data.
• Assist in training field staff and local health workers on HMIS/LMIS reporting and data utilization.
• Document success stories, "Stories of Change," and lessons learned.

3. Community Accountability & Feedback

• Set up and oversee community feedback and complaint response mechanisms across all project locations.
• Ensure feedback from vulnerable groups (women, adolescents, Dalits, and persons with disabilities) informs project decisions.
• Strengthen reporting systems related to Child Safeguarding and PSEAH (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment).

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health (BPH), Statistics, or a closely related field.
• Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of post-bachelor experience in M&E, research, or data management in the development sector.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in mobile data collection tools (KoboToolbox, ODK).
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative analysis using software such as SPSS, STATA, or R.
  • Familiarity with Nepal’s government health system, local governance, and HMIS/LMIS tools.
• Language & Soft Skills: Fluent in English and Nepali (written and verbal), strong reporting abilities, and willingness to travel frequently to remote mountain terrain.
